The spotted lanternfly is in Augusta County.  Spotted lanternflies were first found in Augusta County at the I-81 rest stop near Mt. Sidney.  Another population has become established in and around Waynesboro.  Reports of spotted lanternfly indicate that they have moved south to Stuarts Draft and west to Fishersville.

There is no need to contact Virginia Cooperative Extension if you find a spotted lanternfly near one of the localities mentioned above.  We are interested in sightings outside of these areas so we can monitor how quickly it is spreading.

Augusta County is listed in the quarantine area.  Vehicles, equipment and materials should be inspected for the presence of spotted lanternflies before leaving the county.  The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services website has information about the quarantine:  https://www.vdacs.virginia.gov/plant-industry-services-spotted-lanternfly.shtml
